The son of a wealthy landowner, Marcus is Abby's opposite. Marcus is very resourceful, a product of shrewd business and cold relations, in getting what he wants by using his cunning charm- and father's influence. His good looks and seemingly warm personality is only a paper-thin disguise that covers his truly callous heart. Marcus, spoiled by material wealth and possessions, tends to be unfeeling towards those of lesser statue. He too lost his mother at a young age. The warmth and compassion she had instilled in him as a child has been overwritten by his father's contempt and stern example. Marcus finds security and importance by needing to control his environment and those in it.
